Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting the processing of military recruits by reviewing their records, assembling paperwork, and maintaining files to ensure they meet enlistment standards for the armed forces.

You'll also interview applicants to verify information and provide HR guidance to team members.

It's a good fit for someone with administrative experience in records management who types quickly and has a background in federal or military-related work.

About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force & Coast Guard; meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD & the military services.

Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining & processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces. This is a permanent position.

Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, including: Reviewing applicant records to determine discrepancies; Assembling applicant packets for distribution; Maintaining electronic and paper applicant records; Researching guidance to provide human resources information to other staff members.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Typing Proficiency: In addition to meeting the above qualifications, applicants will need to self-certify their typing proficiency.

A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

If you are a current, Federal employee, you must include your pay plan, series and grade in your work experience(s) on your resume submission and/or upload supporting documentation (within-grade increase SF50) to show that you meet the time-in-grade requirement.

In addition, if your step reflects '00', you must include your current salary for each position. Major Duties:

  • Interview military applicants to gather and verify data for service entry.
  • Obtain military applicants' fingerprints to initiate a background investigation.
  • Perform quality review of military applicant records, packets, and forms to ensure compliance with all requirements.
  • Inform military applicants about required processes and procedures for their branch of service.
  • Prepare recruitment and other military personnel documents for individuals enlisting or reenlisting into military service.
  • Distribute workload among employees to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure new employees are trained and have skills they need to perform well.
  • Resolve conflicts that may arise among team members.
