Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading accounting tasks for the Department of Defense, such as reviewing complex financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing reports to keep financial records accurate.

It also includes guiding junior staff, answering customer questions on financial matters, and ensuring the overall integrity of the organization's ledger.

Key Requirements

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Maintaining accounting or financial ledgers and posting financial transactions; preparing accounting reports; reconciling accounts and working with a variety of accounting and automated financial systems.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in Federal Service.

** The effective date of your SF-50 must reflect that you will meet the 52-week time in grade requirement within 30 days of the announcement closing.

** You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Reviews and processes unusual or difficult accounting transactions, ensuring the propriety and validity of supporting documentation and determining the appropriate account and methodology for processing.
  • Responds to complex questions from customers or lower-level technicians regarding Disbursing data, discrepancies, and procedures.
  • Prepares account status reports and performs monthly reconciliation of the general and subsidiary accounts to assure balancing with computerized reports and/or manual records.
  • Performs administrative and technical functions to ensure the integrity of the general ledger.
  • Distributes and balances workload and ensures timely accomplishment of assigned work.
