Law Enforcement Agent - CIRT Agent

Law Enforcement Agent - CIRT Agent The Critical Incident Response Team is composed of highly motivated individuals who are constantly looking for ways to enhance its operations and serve the department.

Candidates seeking to join this team need to be aware that the selection process, field training program, and attending a tactical operator school are all physically demanding and mentally strenuous.

Serious consideration should be given to the qualifications and expectations of this position.

Maintaining a position on the tactical team often requires sacrifice but is highly rewarding.UDC now offers 1 for 1 year of service credit on our certified pay plan.

The entry pay rate will increase for each prior year of Law Enforcement experience. Please see our current pay plan rates below:

This position does not come with a take home vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Must be 21 years of age

  • Must pass a full background check


  • Preference may be given to those with prior law enforcement and or correctional officer experience.

  • Applicants who are not currently LEO certified or whose LEO certification is inactive must re-activate their certification prior to obtaining employment.

  • For applicants who must attend the LEO academy, arrangements will be made after a job offer is extended.

  • All applicants will be required to perform the PT test, regardless of LEO status.

  • A full service background check will be required for new hires

  • A psychological evaluation will be required for hires new to the Utah Department of Corrections.

  • Selected applicants will be required to attend a Tactical operators / SWAT School.

Principle Duties
The CIRT Agent will need to perform the following role:
  • Use tactical expertise to resolve critical incidents and life-threatening situations.

  • Able to quickly respond to critical incidents, manage resources and quickly adapt to the situation to resolve the incident.

  • Reduce drug trafficking and prison violence.

  • Create lesson plans and conduct training for CIRT Agents and other staff.

  • Draft and carry out operational orders and incident action plans.

  • Make recommendations for revision of policy, procedure, and processes that affect the safety and security of the Utah State Correctional Facility and Central Utah Correctional Facility.

  • Liaison between the tactical unit and other divisions/agencies.

  • Obtain and execute warrants, conduct searches, raids, and investigations, maintaining proper chain of evidence.

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of the Prison Facilities and its functions.

  • Has experience with transporting inmates off prison property.


Expectations

  • Rotating on-call schedule

  • Mandatory responses outside of normal working hours.

  • Must pass all department firearms qualifications with a 90% score biannually.

  • Must pass the CIRT physical training test biannually.

  • Attend required team training



Testing ProcessInternal candidates will be subject to UDC promotional policy, for external candidates this does not apply.Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be notified via email and scheduled for testing.The testing process may consist of a physical fitness test, firearms proficiency test, written test, scenario practical, and oral interview.After competing in all phases of testing, if the applicant scores below a 70% combined average across all testing areas or below 60% in any one area, they will not be placed on the final hiring list.

If an applicant averages above 70%, with no one area being below 60%, their points from each area will be combined and they will be placed on the hiring list.Time, Training, Education, and Experience (T2E2) points will be applied after the candidate meets the minimum standard in all other areas.

Once T2E2 points are applied, candidates will be notified of their final rank order and job offers will be made accordingly.


*This recruitment will create a promotional list for CIRT Agents for CUCF to be used by LEB for up to 1 year from the date the official hiring list is created.

Physical fitness test minimum requirements

  • Bench Press (100% body weight - 1 repetition)

  • Pull-ups (2 repetitions)

  • Plank (2 minutes)

  • Push-ups (45 in 2 minutes)

  • 1.5-mile run (14 minutes)


Time, Training, Education and Experience (T2E2)


Time, Training, Education, and Experience (T2E2) points will not be used to eliminate anyone from the testing process.

If a candidate makes the final hiring list, T2E2 points will be factored into the overall score and will be reflected in the final rank order position on the hiring list.

If a candidate does not make the final hiring list, T2E2 points will not be considered. T2E2 points cannot account for more than 20% of the total points allotted during the promotional process.


Supporting documentation for each area must be included with the application. If any items are questionable, the final determination for points being awarded rests with the hiring authority.

Additional Information

Job requires POST certification; Peace Officer Standards Training in Utah. Need to be Utah POST certified within 12 months of hire.
