This job is for a laborer at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, where you'll handle tasks like maintaining grounds, cleaning warehouses, and loading or unloading supplies from trucks.
It's a temporary position lasting up to 13 months, possibly extendable to eight years, but it won't lead to a permanent role.
A good fit would be someone physically fit who can work independently with basic tools and follow safety practices, even without prior experience.
About the Position: This is a Term position, not-to exceed 13 months. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.
It cannot be made permanent and there is not an opportunity to be non-competitively converted to a career-conditional or career appointment.
Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.
However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) LABORER~ without more than normal supervision.
???To include performing common Laborer tasks including performing grounds keeping tasks; and/or performing warehouse-type tasks which include loading and/or unloading trucks; moving, packing, unpacking, and/or sorting a variety of supply items or equipment; or performing general cleaning of warehouse areas, rooms, and/or loading docks, working under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.
(other than blueprints) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods.
Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds, and regularly is required to lift, carry, and handle items weighing over 80 pounds.
When working as a member of a team, often lifts the heaviest objects with the assistance of another worker or workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. May work on open docks or storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy.
The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material handling and other equipment.
