Full Job Description

You will serve as a LABORER in the FACILITIES DEPARTMENT of MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII. This is a RE-ADVERTISEMENT of Announcement Number: ST-12924027-26-RJM.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION selecting, maintaining, and cleaning equipment and tools for use in assigned tasks.

I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • You will dig trenches with picks and shovels, heavy jackhammers, and mud guns.
  • You will backfill excavations with sand and dirt upon completion of work by tradesman.
  • You will prepare area for concrete slabs and excavate for swales to provide drainage.
  • You will break up asphalt around damaged areas on roads, parking lots, and driveways with jackhammers removing waste material and replacing with new asphalt.
  • You will push heavy wheelbarrows of gravel, coral, rock and concrete.
  • You will load, unload, separate, stack and carry materials, supplies, and packages weighing from 80-100 pounds or more.
  • You will select equipment and tools for each assigned task.
  • You will maintain and account for all types of equipment and tools required to accomplish assigned duties.
