Full Job Description

SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, assists in preparing materials for the Detroit City Council Daily Calendar and Journal and other materials for presentation to the Detroit City Council; and to process City Council actions and resolutions.

Requirements

MAJOR JOB DUTIES

  • Receives petitions and requests for petitions to the City Council.

  • Refers petitions to appropriate departments.

  • Faxes hearing/discussion notices to various departments.

  • Drafts letters setting forth matters to be resolved and accompanying resolutions for the City Council.

  • Attends Council sessions.

  • Records notes and transcribes minutes at City Council Meetings.

  • Drafts summaries of discussions and public hearings and the actions taken.

  • Arranges and proofreads materials related to petitions, etc., for printing a record of the City Council proceedings.

  • Notifies petitioners of City Council actions and explains such actions, as necessary.

  • Answers inquiries of citizens concerning Ordinances, Resolutions and similar acts of the City Council and other matters within the jurisdiction of the City Clerk’s Office.

Qualifications

Qualifications (required):

  • Two years of college or three additional years of comparable work experience may be substituted for the college requirement.


Qualifications (preferred):

  • Four (4) years experience performing important and complex clerical tasks.
