Job Description

Summary

This job involves building and maintaining web applications and dashboards for the Utah State Auditor's office to help analyze financial and other government data, while working with cloud-based AI tools and databases.

You'll collaborate with a team to improve existing systems and create new ones that ensure transparency for the public and officials.

It's a good fit for someone with a couple of years of full-stack development experience who enjoys working independently on data-heavy projects in a government setting.

Key Requirements

  • At least two years of full-stack development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, and frameworks like React
  • Proficiency in database design and management, including modern tools like Big Query, Spanner, Document, and Graph databases
  • Skills in server management, deployment, Docker containerization of microservices, and web security best practices
  • Experience using CLIs, working on Linux machines via SSH/remote access, and CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub and Google Cloud Build)
  • Ability to clean, analyze, and summarize data, including statistical analysis of financial, healthcare, or geographical data
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus the ability to build effective work relationships
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field

Full Job Description

Company Overview: The Office of the Utah State Auditor seeks a qualified candidate to work as a Full-Stack Cloud Developer.

Our office provides Utah taxpayers and government officials with an independent assessment of financial operations, statutory compliance, and performance management for state and local government.

We make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of programs and efficiency of operations.

To accomplish this, we develop and maintain complex information systems and dashboards to provide transparency to the public, auditors, and researchers.

These dashboards may include working with Financial, Geographic, Health, FERPA, or other protected data audited by the State of Utah.

Job Description: This position will provide assistance and advanced knowledge in both maintaining and building web applications that interact with cloud native AI pipelines and databases.

You will collaborate closely with our team of developers and engineers to enhance and maintain our existing projects while also contributing to the development of new AI software initiatives.

Requirements

  • Maintains successful operation of production cloud databases and applications
  • Builds new dashboards, databases, and applications
  • Cleans, analyzes, and summarizes data; conducts statistical analysis and interprets results.
  • Works independently to execute projects as assigned.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least two years’ experience developing full-stack applications:
    1. Writing modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
    2. Python
    3. React or similar framework
    4. Database design and management, including being up on the latest practices and associated versions. (Big Query, Spanner, Document, Graph).
    5. Server management and deployment for the relevant environment
    6. Docker containerization of microservices
    7. Web Security Best Practices (SQL Injection, Cross-Site Scripting, etc.)
  • Know how to use CLIs and work on Linux machines (ssh/remote).
  • Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment (GitHub & Google Cloud Build preferred).
  • Writing code in various software programs to interact with databases and information systems containing financial, healthcare, or geographical data.
  • Communicating information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing, reading and understanding information presented in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with employees, representatives of governments, and the public.
  • This position requires a four-year college degree or equal experience in computing, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related field.
