Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRFTB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: System Administrator (SA) responsible for managing all aspects of TEADs virtualization environment.

Exercises technical responsibility for systems, to include hardware, software, and mission applications.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

Customer Service-coordinate network security requirements with customers to ensure they are met. Oral Communication-inform management of progress toward meeting network security objectives.

Problem Solving-conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities.

AND Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes management of Windows Servers, UNIX/Linux, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and VMware virtualization services.

Administration of data storage and backup/retrieval of Microsoft SQL databases. Implementing software upgrades and patches to correct operating system deficiencies.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Develop the strategy for optimal use of the virtualized environment and system integration with other collaborative tools within the organization.
  • Administer and manage virtualized servers, applications and the physical hosts in support of these technologies.
  • Oversees and manages the full life-cycle of software and hardware systems(s) to support TEADs area of responsibility.
  • Install, configure, maintain, support, operate and monitor performance of all TEAD infrastructure servers (e.g., Microsoft Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, VMWare, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle).
  • Diagnose and correct system failures between equipment, networks, systems software, and applications systems and track system failures and corrective actions.
  • Administer TEAD data storage and backup/retrieval of all NIPRNet user data (i.e., Microsoft SQL databases, user files, system logs, etc.).
  • Serve as a subject-matter authority in the operations and configuration of operating systems (i.e., Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, and Linux), IT products, and their effect or utility in the wider network.
  • Provide highly technical, professional and courteous Tier-2 customer support.
  • Review, interpret, and execute DOD, Headquarters Department of the Army (HQDA), and command policies and guidelines for data, and system security including DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG).
