Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading efforts to secure and certify information technology systems for a naval program, ensuring they meet security standards and handling risks from cyber threats.

It supports the acquisition of hardware and software while integrating security into program reviews.

A good fit would be someone with strong IT security experience, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with teams and stakeholders in a government or defense setting.

Key Requirements

  • One year of IT-related experience demonstrating attention to detail, such as interpreting compliance patterns and assessing risks
  • One year of IT-related experience in customer service, including building relationships with organizations involved in network acquisition and sustainment
  • One year of IT-related experience in oral communication, such as providing guidance in system oversight and program reviews
  • One year of IT-related experience in problem solving, including technical support for acquiring hardware and software under federal regulations
  • One year of specialized experience at GS-13 level or equivalent, utilizing cybersecurity principles, managing threats and vulnerabilities, and executing Risk Management Framework (RMF) policies
  • Experience in leading Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Assurance (IA)/Certification and Accreditation for IT systems portfolios

Full Job Description

You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) in the DIRECT REPORTING PROGRAM (DRPM), MILE.

I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Interpret patterns of non-compliance to determine impact on levels of risk and/or overall effectiveness of the enclave's IA program. 2.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Establish and maintain relationships with all activities, organizations, and commands directly involved with the acquisition and sustainment of the network.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Provide guidance for system oversight, conduct reviews and fully integrate IA and INFOSEC into systems engineering and program reviews, and milestone/gate reviews for DON-managed information system programs.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Provide technical support to the program office within the IA arena for the acquisition of required hardware, software, support systems, and other materials in accordance with federal law and DoD and DON life cycle management regulations.

In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 or pay band DP-03 in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Utilizing cybersecurity principles; managing cyber threats and vulnerabilities; and executing Risk Management Framework (RMF) policies and procedures.

  • You will lead and manage Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Assurance (IA)/Certification and Accreditation efforts for program's portfolio of information technology systems.
  • You will technical support to the program office within the IA arena for the acquisition of required hardware, software, support systems, and other materials in accordance with federal law and DoD and DON life cycle management regulations.
  • You will provide guidance for system oversight, conduct reviews and fully integrate IA and INFOSEC into systems engineering and program reviews, and milestone/gate reviews for DON-managed information system programs.
  • You will identify and assess the risks to information systems and networks from attack and/or intrusion; and recommend safeguards and protections to manage and mitigate risks.
  • You will define risk evaluation criteria and continuously collect, assess, share, and respond to data appropriately.
  • You will ensure protection and detection capabilities are acquired or developed using the IS security engineering approach and are consistent with DoD Component level IA architecture.
