Job Description

Summary

This job involves providing IT support and troubleshooting for computer systems and networks in the Air National Guard, including installing new equipment, fixing issues, and ensuring smooth operations for users.

It's a hands-on role focused on helping military personnel with their tech needs while maintaining security and efficiency.

Key Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for Indiana National Guard membership with military grades E3 through E5 and compatible assignment 1D7X1
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related fields with at least 24 semester hours in relevant areas
  • IT-related experience demonstrating competencies in attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving
  • One year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent, including planning IT projects, coordinating with teams, adapting guidelines, and preparing cost/benefit analyses
  • Knowledge of IT network systems, integration methods, performance tuning, test and evaluation procedures, IT security principles, and project management
  • Ability to analyze and modify IT systems for recovery from failures, minimizing service interruptions, and improving customer support
  • Unofficial or official transcripts required to meet education requirements

THIS IS AN INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This position is part of the IN 122nd Fighter Wing, Indiana National Guard under Position Description Number D2388000.

or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.

or equivalent doctoral degree Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.(unofficial or official transcript(s) must be uploaded with application to meet this education requirement) OR IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade at the GS-09 level.

Experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization.

Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls.

Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment.

Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

Knowledge of applying analysis concepts to IT network systems and independent IT platforms, integration methods, performance tuning methods, test and evaluation methods and procedures, IT security principles and methods plus, project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment.

Ability to analyze, apply methods and practices for recovering, adjusting and modifying IT systems to solve complex problems, while improving customer support practices, that minimizes interruptions in service.

Knowledge of the interrelationship of multiple IT systems, utilizing methods, principles, and practices covering restoral from complex computer and infrastructure system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components.

Knowledge of methods and practices involved in the integration of system components sufficient to optimize system performance.

If approved, the memorandum will be returned to you and then submitted with your application. Major Duties:

  • Provides customer technical assistance and support for all users of the operational and/or tactical environment.
  • Assist customer with fulfilling requirements and assists customers by recognizing and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs hardware devices supporting a broad range of information and communications systems on the operation network and/or tactical network.
  • Manages the assigned IT/communications environment with privileged access at the network level and/or tactical environment for the unit.
  • Serves as a focal point for ensuring functionality and operability of the assigned IT/data systems/functions, voice and wireless systems to support mission requirements of unit.
  • Conducts feasibility studies to identify and analyze system failures and analyzes data to determine if trends exist which forecast the need for future replacement or modification of system hardware and software
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
