Full Job Description

This IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT) is located at an Air National Guard (ANG) wing, Mission Support Group, Base Communications Unit and is part of the CA 163 ATKW.

IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT), GS-2210-11: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government.

This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated.

Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: approaching techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area; Planning sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment entailing coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; Preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies involved in summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION.

The primary purpose of the IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT), GS-2210-11, is to serve as a customer support specialist performing work involving analytical and evaluative duties related to classified and unclassified information technology networks and/or cyber system with primary knowledge requirements of information processing methodology, information technology, telecommunications systems, computer capabilities, processing techniques, IT trouble ticket management, and data communications.

Reviews and validates radio frequency allocations. Maintains frequency records and associated databases.

Manages the assigned IT/communications environment with privileged access at the network level for the Wing, Geographically Separated Units (GSU), and Tenants.

Optimizes the functionality and performance of hardware and software systems and ensures availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of system/functional resources while managing the communications focal point coordination and workload distribution duties.

Provides customer technical assistance and support for all users.

Provides ongoing technical support to customers to ensure proper functional use of equipment and programs and to preclude undue interruptions to IT and communications services.

Works with customers to ensure efficient operations which support each units' requirements. Plans, coordinates, installs, and continuously analyzes system design, hardware and software.

Analyzes, manages, and directs installation of any new hardware or software introduced into the environment to ensure its compatibility with existing architecture, its reliability, and functionality in relation to the organization's business requirements.

Provides on-going optimization and problem solving support; continually surveys system operation to identify potential systems problems which could lead to loss or serious interruption of service.

Oversees and initiates corrective or preventative measures to rectify immediate problems and prevent future occurrences through the CFP.

Troubleshoots and diagnoses system failures to isolate source of problems.

Performs testing, troubleshoots, corrects problems, and distributes workload relative to interface and interoperability of system components such as hardware, systems software, and applications programs.

The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military.

In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.
