Job Description

Summary

This job involves creating strategies and standards to safely and responsibly roll out artificial intelligence in the U.S.

Treasury Department, ensuring systems are secure, efficient, and aligned with government goals.

You'll lead projects on AI integration, cloud updates, and cybersecurity while working with teams and executives.

It's ideal for experienced tech leaders with a strong background in AI development and federal or large-scale IT projects who value ethical tech practices.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 (for GS-15), including directing collaborative projects, leading cloud-native modernization, and developing production-grade AI systems
  • Ability to implement AI solutions in production or test environments (selective factor)
  • IT-related experience demonstrating competencies in attention to detail, customer service, oral and written communication, and problem-solving
  • For lower grades: Experience in collaborating with executives on tech adoption, conducting AI cybersecurity risk assessments, applying cybersecurity in AI/cloud, participating in Agile teams, or assisting in AI model design/deployment
  • Familiarity with best practices like Agile, DevSecOps, and Digital Engineering to meet mission, cybersecurity, and performance requirements
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearance

Full Job Description

This position may be filled within any Treasury Bureau.

As an IT Specialist (Artificial Intelligence), you will be responsible for formulating technical strategies, standards, & architectures that advance the secure & ethical deployment of AI across Treasury and, by extension, the federal government.

You will ensure Treasury's systems meet mission, cybersecurity, & performance requirements using best practices including Agile, DevSecOps, and Digital Engineering.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

As an IT Specialist (AI), the following are the duties of this position at the GS-15, or equivalent.

If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

Formulate and direct enterprise-wide AI engineering strategies for AI-enabled systems, computer hardware/software integration, and cloud-native architectures, ensuring compliance with federal mandates and Executive Orders.

Design, develop, and evaluate advanced computer engineering solutions for secure AI system deployment, incorporating cybersecurity-by-design and DevSecOps principles.

Lead and coordinate cross-agency AI engineering projects involving large-scale digital transformation, data platforms, and secure computing infrastructures.
