Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading IT projects for the Department of Defense's finance and accounting service, from planning and budgeting to overseeing teams and ensuring successful delivery of software and hardware.

Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the Basic Competency Requirements listed above, one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-12 in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as leading enterprise wide Information Technology projects and teams supporting information technology acquisition efforts, including carrying out project management functions from planning through evaluation and reporting of project accomplishments; experience applying expert knowledge of acquisition policies and regulations in the procurement of IT software, hardware, and related support services; experience in creating budgets and spending plans for final approval by senior management and tracking and reporting local organization budget execution.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • Responsible for guiding the team toward the goal; reporting of metrics; backlog tracking; removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments.
  • Identifies, plans, and coordinates various IT systems/software projects.
  • Estimates project costs and submit cost estimates for related funding plans.
  • Evaluates new information technologies, processes, and software for application to mission information needs.
  • Develops requirements and project schedules monitoring closely to ensure that Directorate and DFAS projects are on schedule and meeting requirements within established budget limitations.
