DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The IT Lead serves as the senior technical resource for the Houston Fire Department, overseeing daily IT operations, supporting mission-critical public safety systems, and ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of technology used by fire stations, dispatch centers, emergency response teams, and administrative staff.
This role provides hands-on technical leadership, mentors IT staff, and collaborates closely with command staff to align technology solutions with operational needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditioning. Significant time spent using computer displays, keyboard, and mouse.
Participation in emergency response events, disasters and departmental weather activations is required.
EDUCATION
EXPERIENCE
At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware.LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS PREFERED:
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skillsets:
Experience supporting 24/7 operational environments or emergency response organizations.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
