Full Job Description

The City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities are establishing an eligible list for the GIS Analyst position. The GIS Analyst will work collaboratively with a team of GIS analysts, system and data administrators, and customer support staff to deliver mission critical applications and data to several City departments and external users, across various technologies and platforms. They will play an important role in utilizing GIS to support the City's Racial Equity Action Plans (REAPs) reach vulnerable populations and promote equity.

This is an entry-level position that provides an excellent opportunity to grow and develop GIS skills under the direction of the GIS Supervisor and/or Lead, while doing meaningful and impactful work. The incumbent will maintain City geographical data assets and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures and data sharing workflows and strategies, while applying industry standards and best practices as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, edit, and maintain data and metadata quality and standards using industry best practices for an enterprise GIS architecture.
  • Develop and maintain strategies, architectures, protocols and workflows for publishing and sharing data with Tacoma residents and with collaborating agencies such as Pierce County and Parks Tacoma.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate and replace legacy data and application integration methods with reusable, standards-based integration solutions that connect other systems and can serve multiple purposes.
  • Work with City department users to evaluate business needs, identify appropriate GIS analyses, build GIS-based solutions, and provide customer service, troubleshooting and support.
  • Contribute towards the development of various GIS visualizations, templates and standards, internal and public facing, in various formats. These may include dashboards, posters, web apps and StoryMaps.
  • Work collaboratively on project teams and the GIS team to build capacity among GIS users in the City.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills, as well as strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

Requirements

An equivalent combination to:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field

    OR
  • Associate's degree in computer science and at least two years of directly related information technology work experience

Qualifications

  • Troubleshoot computer hardware, software and system difficulties; propose solutions, track and assure resolution through appropriate follow-up methods.
  • Understand concepts of information technology including computers, peripherals, operating systems and applications.
  • Knowledge of computer technology principles, their application, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience building GIS solutions using various Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro, Desktop, StoryMaps and Enterprise
  • Experience managing spatial data in enterprise databases
  • Experience developing and maintaining metadata quality and standards.
  • Some positions: Ability to read and map legal descriptions

Pay Details:

Hourly Rate: $34.78 - $53.96

Annual Salary: $72,342.40 - $112,236.80
