Ramsey County Information Services is seeking a Senior Network Engineer with enterprise-level network design and management experience to support our county's infrastructure operations and strategy.
This role involves supporting LAN/WAN, data center networking, wireless platforms, and security infrastructure.
You will be responsible for ensuring high availability, peak performance, and robust security controls across all network services, supporting critical operations for the county's service teams.

To provide advanced support, maintenance, and lifecycle management across Ramsey County’s network and server infrastructure, desktop and mobile computing, or enterprise applications.
This role is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, automation, and optimization of on-prem, cloud and hybrid environments—identifying, evaluating, and integrating new hardware and software solutions to enhance performance and reliability focusing on collaboration in a service organization resolve complex issues and drive continuous improvement.
Collaborate using expert resources and IS Leads in reviewing service requests, release notes, and new technology proposals to assess their impact on County hardware, software, network infrastructure, and operational processes.
Provide recommendations and summarize findings related to risks, costs, and implementation efforts to support final decision-making.
NETWORK/VoIP SERVICES:
Analyze County-wide data network connection needs by conducting walk-throughs, developing plans, and installing network cabling for connection of PCs, printers, and other networked devices.
Consult with and coordinate the work of electrical contractors to install network cabling following County standards and process awareness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9.
Network/VoIP Services: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in computer sciences or a related field.
Experience: Six years of progressive server hardware and server-based operating systems administration including mobile and desktop, applications or security administration, or data network and network device support as related to the current opening.
Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Certifications/Licensure: None.
The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:
Training and Experience Rating = 100%
The examination for IS Technical Services Specialist Senior will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire.
Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating.
The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions –do not mark “see resume” or “see work history” as a response.

Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.Eligible List: The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as an IS Technical Services Specialist Senior.
This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy.
Candidates will remain on the list for 30 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted.
Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process.
