This job involves managing interpreter services for Alaska's court system, including scheduling professionals for hearings, handling contracts and training, and improving access to justice for non-English speakers.
It requires coordinating with various providers and staff to ensure timely and quality language support in court proceedings.
A good fit would be someone organized with experience in administrative coordination, interest in legal access programs, and familiarity with court operations.

The Interpreter Services Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of interpreter services, policies, and related programs overseen by the Access to Justice Services Department.
The Position
Coordinate statewide language interpreter services for all courtroom hearings and proceedings by working with interpreter providers, state court interpreter programs, freelance contract interpreters, and other qualified spoken and sign language professionals.
Maintain and improve the interpreter scheduling system to enhance quality, efficiency, and timeliness of services.
Assist in developing criteria for selecting and contracting with interpreters and support the management of interpreter programs, including registering candidates for training, helping conduct training activities, and assisting with the administration of national proficiency exams.
Use databases to locate, procure, and coordinate interpreter services to meet court operational needs.
Prepare regular and ad hoc reports related to interpreter usage, claims, billing inquiries, and workload statistics.
Coordinate with administrative staff regarding contracts, travel arrangements, and interpreter compensation.
Ensure interpreter video and audio equipment is available and coordinate installation with IT technicians and local court staff.
Support Language Access initiatives, including development and maintenance of an online interpreter orientation program.
Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of court rules, policies, procedures, and the statewide Language Access Plan.
Evaluate language service initiatives, identify emerging issues and trends, and recommend improvements or additional programs.
Participate in complex projects involving national, state, and local agencies to improve the delivery of language access services statewide.
This is a partially-exempt position serving "at-will" to the hiring authority.

The Interpreter Services Coordinator is a flexibly-staffed position.
Progression to a higher level will occur if the incumbent: 1) successfully completes a specified training plan; 2) meets all other specified terms of the flexible staffing agreement; 3) meets the minimum qualifications of the higher level; 4) is certified by the supervisor as capable to perform at a higher level; and 5) is approved the Human Resources Department.
Work Hours
Full-time court employees currently work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Travel may be required.
