This job involves leading a team that installs and maintains navigation markers on South Carolina's waterways, overseeing a dive team for aquatic investigations and recovery, and managing permits for marine events.
It's a supervisory role for experienced law enforcement officers who are comfortable working on water and handling on-call duties.
A good fit would be someone with years of boating law enforcement background, diving expertise, and strong organizational skills.
Supervising Aids to Navigation (ATON) Section employees: Supervising/managing the placement/installation, maintenance, and erection of all Navigational Aids throughout the state.Marking all regulatory zones with proper aids or signs.Monitoring and logging all maintenance done to each individual buoy and completing required form(s) and maintenance logs.Marking any newly approved zones with proper markings and submitting completed reports, maps or documents required to document zones.Maintaining/ordering inventory to complete the replacement or installation of any navigational aids.Supervising the SCDNR Aquatic Investigations and Recovery (AIR) Team:Maintaining records of diver assignments, equipment inventories and dive assignments.Monitoring equipment purchases, maintenance and serviceability of dive team equipment.
Submitting/producing purchase documents and managing purchasing records for dive equipment.Serving as the lead instructor for the Dive Team and scheduling all Dive Training and responding to requests for service from outside entities in a timely manner.
Ensuring all Dive Team members are up-to-date with certifications and training requirements.Supervising the Marine Event Permit Program and the employees issuing permits.
Ensuring permits are issued within established time-frames, and that records of issued permits are detailed and accurate. Attending annual in-service training and maintaining academy certifications.
Requirements A high school diploma and four (4) years experience as a Class 1 DNR Law Enforcement Officer.
Qualifications Knowledge, skills and abilities acquired through successive rank promotions as a law enforcement officer and AIR Team. Basic computer knowledge.
Certified diver.Applicant should have: (1) Extensive knowledge of SC lakes, rivers, and waterways; (2) Extensive knowledge of State and Federal Laws relating to boating; (3) Knowledge of boat operations and watercraft characteristics; (4) Applicant should be able to adhere to an on-call schedule and may be required to work on holidays and weekends to complete job tasks to professional standards; (5) A dive instructor and four (4) years experience as a certified diver.
