About the Position: This position is in the Defense Health Agency Public Health, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.

Basic Requirement for Toxicologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

Basic Requirement for Biological Science:A.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B.

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the assessment of toxicological effects of chemical compounds, performing in vitro or in vivo toxicity studies, and providing briefings to a variety of stakeholders.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Major Duties:

• Predicts toxicity and exposure parameters of untested chemicals based on molecular structure or other chemical properties.
• Performs Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSARs), making environmental fate and transport predictions
• Defines the pharmacological, toxicological, reproductive, and developmental effects of various toxicants.
• Represents DCPH-A at scientific meetings, seminars, and workgroups with external organizations, consulting and defending on matters related to chemical science, including chemical reactions, chemical analysis, and chemical processes.
• Initiates projects that fill data gaps in the toxicity assessment of chemicals of military interest or provides additional analytical tools to the Directorate of Toxicology's capabilities.
