Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S.
Border Patrol, Buffalo Sector, Sector Intelligence Unit, location in Grand Island, NY.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Conducting research and analysis of intelligence information from multiple sources; Preparing written intelligence products, summaries, or reports for management or external partners; Using databases or specialized software to manage, retrieve, and analyze intelligence data; Identifying intelligence requirements and recommending priorities for collection or analysis; Supporting the development of new analytic approaches or tools to enhance intelligence production.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Developing new analytic approaches or tools to enhance intelligence production; Independently conducting research and analysis of intelligence information from multiple sources; Utilizing databases or specialized software to manage, retrieve, and analyze intelligence data for complex assignments; Identifying intelligence requirements and recommending priorities for collection or analysis in support of mission objectives; Maintaining awareness of current events and emerging threats relevant to mission objectives and advising leadership.

or equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. degree may substitute for experience required at this level.
This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study.
If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours. There is no education substitution for the GS-12 grade level.
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages.
The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.
Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grade GS-11.

In this position, you will use your expertise to research, review, and evaluate a high volume of classified, sensitive, open-source intelligence to identify threats and provide situational awareness for operations.
You will synchronize intelligence planning, direction, analysis, production, and dissemination in order to deliver high quality, operationally relevant, and timely all-source intelligence to decision makers and operators in furtherance of the CBP mission.
Work products and output will have a direct impact on the CBP mission.
This position starts at a salary of $78,091.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $121,680.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $144,694 (GS-13 Step 10).
The Intelligence Research Specialist provides operational stakeholders with intelligence products that inform and enhance strategic, operational, and tactical decisions in support of operations directed at threats to border security.
Duties and responsibilities include: Planning, Directing, and Collecting: serving as a senior analyst and/or project leader in short and long term planning through in-depth research and analysis regarding threats to border security.
Processing and Exploitation: compiling, collating, extrapolating, and exploiting information from intelligence databases and open-source reporting in support of border security operations.
Identifying, reviewing and evaluating large volumes of sensitive and complex information in support of strategic, operational, or tactical operations Participating in the development of intelligence programs/projects until they are fully operational Developing and conducting intricate studies, preparing reports, and delivering briefings to managers and operators.
