This position is located in the Consumer and External Affairs Division’s Office of Consumer Services and reports directly to the Supervising Analyst / Insurance Regulatory Analyst III.

The Office of Consumer Services is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Insurance Regulatory Analyst II to assist consumers, analyze insurance complaints, and ensure the Department of Insurance is able to achieve its mission.

This position offers the opportunity to apply your insurance expertise in a meaningful way helping to resolve insurance issues.

What You Will Do

As an Insurance Regulatory Analyst II, you will:

•Review, investigate, and track written complaints & inquiries concerning a variety of insurance policies (this position is ideal for an analyst specializing in Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance issues, including auto, homeowners, personal lines, commercial, and workers' compensation insurance policies).

•Respond to consumer needs relating to P&C and Life, Accident & Health-LA&H products; provide market assistance by helping to identify hard-to-place insurance coverage within the insurance market.

•Assist multiple entities including State government agencies, as well as consumers following a catastrophic event.

•Provide training, assistance, and mentoring to other Department staff.

•Represent the Department at public outreach events and educational forums which may take place in the evenings & weekends, and may require occasional travel.

•Provide primary support to the Office of Consumer Services Administrative Staff, including Call Center/Switchboard operations, and Complaint Assignments & Distribution within the division.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree or at least three (3) years of professional insurance industry experience that may include, but is not limited to: Licensed Insurance Producer, Insurance Customer Service Representative, Insurance Underwriter, Claims Adjuster or Representative, servicing P&C and/or LA&H insurance products.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Licensed Producer or Insurance Customer Service Representative, servicing both P&C and LA&H products.
  • Direct experience with flood insurance and catastrophe management.
  • Knowledge of applicable state insurance laws, rules, regulations, & applicable federal laws.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and principles and practices of the insurance industry, including underwriting and claims.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience interpreting insurance policies or handling insurance claims

Additional Information

  • Must have the ability to present clear, concise, and comprehensive written & oral reports.
  • A writing sample will be required. Ability to analyze facts and reach sound conclusions.
  • Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with the public, insurers, and industry representatives.
  • Ability to respond professionally in all situations. Strong computer skills (ability to complete intermediate-level tasks in Access, Excel, Publisher, and other Microsoft Office and Adobe programs).
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment. Must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple projects. Expertise, knowledge, and experience or educational training in the programs, functions, and activities of the insurance industry in South Carolina.
