Summary

This job involves installing, repairing, and modifying insulation on nuclear-related equipment like pipes, tanks, and turbines aboard ships and submarines in Guam.

Full Job Description

You will serve as an INSULATOR (NUCLEAR) in the NUCLEAR REGIONAL MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT at GUAM Detachment of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

  • You will plan and lay out work, develop patterns, cut, form, join, assemble, evaluate quality, and install all types of insulating materials.
  • You will estimate and select the types and amounts of insulation required considering the computations, size, shape, temperature, accessibility, environment, and physical appearance of the item or system.
  • You will cover items that are irregular in shape, angle, or require special layout due to bends and curves.
  • You will work with materials in sheet form, molded forms, blocks, or pads to remove/fabricate/apply insulation to the surfaces of pipes, ducts, irregular shaped valves, fittings, tanks, turbines, refrigeration units, or similar components.
  • You will plan and lay out insulation to make repairs and modifications to areas on surface ships, submarines, and/or naval facilities.
