Pay Schedule I, Grade 22, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Engineering and Construction - Surveys

A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

Requirements

Under general supervision, operates electronic survey instruments and performs a variety of technical surveying duties for a land surveying party.
  • Participates in conducting land surveys.
  • Measures field locations of objects, the dimensions and boundaries of land areas, and the position of points, lines, and grades.
  • Operates conventional and electronic field surveying instruments.
  • Sets up and operates total stations, G.P.S. receivers, data collectors, and other instruments to establish angles and distances for mapping, construction, stake out, and the establishment of control.
  • Gives instruction and guidance to engineering aides and others.
  • Assists the party chief.
  • Performs site reviews.
  • Leads the survey party in the absence of the chief.

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent

plus

at least three years' experience in land surveying.

Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of physical labor such as bending, stooping, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, and lifting and carrying equipment and other objects. Work requires travel to sites throughout the County.
