About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center in the Directorate of Medicine, Department of Medicine Cardiac Catheterization Lab services in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Specialized Experience: One-year of specialized experience which includes functioning as a cardiovascular technician in a cardiac catheterization laboratory; assisting physician in direct support of cardiac catheter-based procedures; operating hemodynamic monitoring systems and maintaining a sterile field.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Cardiovascular Science.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Assist physicians and team members during a variety of highly complex, potentially life-threatening invasive cardiovascular procedures on stable and unstable patients.
  • Ensure patients are well-informed of the procedure and understand circumstances that will occur during procedures.
  • Clean instruments and maintain sterile instruments inventory.
  • Assists in identifying and selecting patients procedure-specific catheters, supplies, equipment, and contrast medium and volume and then manipulates or changes supplies or instruments in order to meet the requirements of the procedure.
  • Attend to patients safety and comfort needs before, during, and after procedures.
