Job Description

Summary

This job is for a psychology instructor at a community college, where you'll teach classes to diverse students, create and update course materials, and help with student advising and college events.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology or a master's in any field with at least 18 graduate hours in psychology

Full Job Description

Teach Psychology courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist with departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends, or a combination.

Teaching Performance – the ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.

Instructional Development – the development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.

Instructional management – the effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.

Student Advisement – the participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.

Professional Development – the participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.

College and/or Community Service – the participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service.

Requirements

A master's degree in psychology or a master's degree in any field with 18 graduate hours in psychology.

Qualifications

Ph.D. and experience teaching college-level transfer psychology courses online, face-to-face to adults, and dual enrollment students.

Additional Information

Day travel to various SCC campuses and affiliated institutions may be required as well as teaching evening and/or weekend classes. Professional, collegial, and ethical conduct, decisions and relationships are expected at all times.
