Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping people in the U.S. Coast Guard fix computer hardware, software, and network problems, while also managing user access and security to keep systems safe.

Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS-2210-11, Information Technology Specialist (CUSTSPT) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S.

Coast Guard, BASE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

Providing technical assistance to end users for hardware, software, and network issues; diagnosing and resolving IT problems in a timely manner.

Assisting with the management of access controls and user accounts, supporting the implementation of security protocols, monitoring system access to ensure compliance with organizational policies and helping to protect IT resources from unauthorized access.

Training end users on software applications, IT policies, and best practices; answering questions and clarifying procedures.

Assisting with analyzing recurring technical issues and system incidents; identifying root causes and trends; evaluating the effectiveness of existing solutions; and assisting with the implementation of corrective actions to prevent future problems.

Reviewing IT incident and help desk data; identifying patterns or emerging trends; assessing impacts to system performance; and recommending process improvements or corrective actions.

Or Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education; Or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

You will serve as an Information Technology Specialist (CUSTSPT) and be responsible for providing technical support to customers who need assistance utilizing client-level hardware and software in accordance with established or approved organizational process components.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Providing technical assistance to end users for hardware, software, and network issues.

Assisting with access controls, user accounts, and security protocols to protect organizational IT resources. Training end users on software applications, IT policies, and best practices.

Analyzing recurring technical issues and recommend solutions to prevent future problems.

Reviewing and analyzing IT incident and help desk data to identify patterns or emerging trends to improve system performance.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
