Base salary range: $51,332 - $66,732
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-8. Master's degree or 2 years graduate study.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves supporting and managing IT systems for the Veterans Affairs Inspector General's office, including handling network setups, software deployments, and providing help to users with tech issues.
It's a good fit for someone with a couple of years of IT experience or a relevant master's degree who enjoys troubleshooting problems and communicating with teams in a government setting.
You'll start at a mid-level role with training to grow into more advanced responsibilities.
OIG is organized into six operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, and Office of Management and Administration.
In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country.
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience or General experience for this position includes: Assisting with system software deployment; AND Assisting with security software implementation within the local infrastructure boundary ; AND Assisting with network services optimization, operation, recovery services.
OR You may qualify with a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
To be qualifying, your degree must be in computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research or engineering, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
Major Duties:
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13.
If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Administers, develops, delivers, and supports information technology systems and services which require knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods.
Acts as a liaison between OIG and Office of Information & Technology personnel.
Supports Infrastructure components including wide area networking and converged technologies to include managing connectivity to OIG Offices, managing OIG wide area network, telecommunications (phone lines, data, and voice circuits) Video conferencing technologies, wireless network, and universal network services such as infrastructure applications (CiscoWorks, WhatsUp Gold, Dell Open Manage, etc.) Provides all OIG customers a single point of contact for all Information Technology questions, support, and communication.
The OIG IT Support Team handles all IT incidents and problems, IT asset management, and maintain IT assets inventory.
