In order to qualify for this position, you must demonstrate possession of each of the following basic competencies AND at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in Federal Service, as defined below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
GS-9: To be qualified at the GS-9 grade level in federal service, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Specialized Experience.
Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 grade level in federal service assisting in the planning and delivery of customer support services including installing, configurating, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training; Performing analysis, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance, and/or management of networked systems; ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data; following established procedures for data recovery and preservation of electronic evidence to include reporting procedures; and conducting Internet server maintenance functions.
Education: A Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.) in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
GS-11: To be qualified at the GS-11 grade level in federal service, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Specialized Experience.
Specialized experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 grade level in federal service providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; providing technical support services to coordinate teleconferences and distance learning activities; performing ongoing network monitoring and management; distributing and installing new or upgraded software to ensure customers receive current versions of supported software; designing, developing, testing, implementing, and managing internet and intranet websites; creating basic scripts or code using general knowledge of programming languages and tools; and participating in the testing and implementation of an organization's information security program.
Education: A PH.D.
or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree AND this education must be either in one of the following fields OR provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

GS-12: To be qualified at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service maintaining network architecture and infrastructure; configuring and maintaining servers, hubs, routers, and switches; monitoring network capacity and performance; analyzing network traffic patterns and installing network software fixes, upgrades, and enhancements; resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems; designing, developing, testing, implementing, and managing internet and intranet websites; implementing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data; implementing programs to ensure users are aware of, understand, and adhere to systems security policies and procedures; and assessing and providing feedback on problematic trends and patterns in customer support requirements and providing recommendations to resolve cited problems.
Major Duties:
If selected for this position, you will serve as a district Information Technology (IT) Specialist responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving three or more IT specialty areas which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).
Typical work assignments will include: Providing customer service technical assistance and support for users. Assisting customers by recognizing and analyzing trends and providing instructions.
Analyzing, managing, and direct installation of any new hardware and software introduced into the environment to ensure its compatibility with existing architecture, its reliability, and functionality in relation to the organization's business requirements.
Performing system audits to assess security parameters and performance of AI controls within the network environment USAO information needs utilizing network hardware and software capabilities.
Maintaining and controlling district's computer equipment inventory.
Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Promoting awareness of security issues among management and employees. Implementing programs to ensure users are aware of, understand and adhere to systems security policies and procedures.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
