Full Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, the Information Systems Analyst supports the university’s mission critical systems, provides technical assistance to the application staff, and assists in maintenance of related systems.

  • Works with supervisor, systems programmer and end users to enhance and support university systems.
  • Analyzes business processes and system logic, identifies issues and implements necessary improvements/adjustments.
  • Provides recommendations for future enhancements based on identified needs and recurring problems.
  • Reviews and debugs existing code, reports and data exports to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Develops and modifies SQL queries and stored procedures to improve system functionality and support business-process best practices.
  • Works with systems programmer to develop new applications, data exports and reports to support university operations.
  • Uses job scheduling software, configuration on server(s) and/or additional coding infrastructure to provide new functionality for the university, third-party and Banner-related systems.
  • Assists with Banner updates, patches and security permissions to maintain secure and current system environments.
  • Proactively researches and evaluates the latest updates, patches and product releases for Banner-related systems.
  • Installs updates and patches into designated environments for user testing and validation.
  • Assists in coordinating system maintenance with Banner users to ensure all production applications remain up to date and fully operational.
  • Helps with support and management of mission-critical university systems to ensure stable and reliable operations.
  • Assists with installation, configuration, management and resource allocation of Oracle and Linux environments.
  • Proactively researches, evaluates and reviews the latest updates, patches and product releases for Oracle databases and Red Hat Linux systems.
  • Assists in performing and validating system backups.
  • Investigates, analyzes and resolves system software issues to maintain secure and efficient system performance.
  • Helps monitor the help desk and responds to tickets related to Banner permissions, access issues and application errors to ensure timely support and issue resolution.

Requirements


  • Associate’s degree in computer science or related field and two years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field may be considered in lieu of work experience.
  • Knowledge of programming best practices, principles and techniques.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to install Oracle and Linux systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and manage servers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with strict confidentiality.
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of new technologies and trends and incorporate that knowledge into job functions.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Oracle database and Red Hat server administration.
  • Oracle certifications.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner or similar software.

Additional Information

Travel/Overtime Requirements: Work outside regular business hours and on weekends for planned system maintenance and during emergencies.
