This job is for an experienced attorney who supports the South Carolina Department of Insurance by giving legal advice on internal operations like procurement, HR, IT, and data privacy.
The role involves drafting policies, handling contracts, monitoring laws, and assisting with employment issues to keep the department running smoothly and in compliance.
It's a good fit for a licensed lawyer with strong organizational skills and knowledge of government regulations who enjoys behind-the-scenes work in a regulatory agency.

A Juris Doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney. Admission to the South Carolina Bar and the federal court of this state is required.
A minimum of 7 years legal experience is required with 2 or more years’ experience as in house counsel with experience in handling information law and management, contracts, privacy or data security.
Some travel may be required.
Strong people, change and time management skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders are key.
Successful candidate must be results-oriented with ability to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously.

Familiarity with insurance principles, management and litigation experience, IAPP/US or other equivalent data security certifications, knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to access legal research databases is preferred.
