Job Description

Summary

This job involves hands-on work in a munitions factory, where you'll operate tools and equipment to produce, rebuild, or dispose of ammunition and chemical defense items, often in challenging environments with safety gear.

It's ideal for someone with basic manual labor experience who can follow instructions, handle physical tasks like lifting heavy objects, and stay safe around hazardous materials.

No formal education is needed, but you must show you can work independently without much oversight.

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

This position serves as an Industrial Worker located at located at Pine Bluff Arsenal.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Worker~ without more than normal supervision.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further.

To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: to perform single-step operations requiring adherence to safety requirements such as assembly-line work.

PHYSICAL EFFORT Workers frequently lift bomb, shells, and rocket casings, power charges, or other objects weighting 30 to 40 pounds.

Workers frequently lift and carry cartons, materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty pounds and may occasionally handle items weighing up to fifty pounds.

Some assignments require lifting above 60 pounds at a production rate pace determined by line speed/engineering standards. May pull or push hand trucks weighting several hundred pounds.

The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, and long periods of standing. Endurance and eye-hand coordination are required to work at a steady pace and rhythm for long periods.

Workers perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring them to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods.

Hand-trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is both inside and outside.

The worker may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. The nature of the work is dirty, dusty, greasy, and the area may be noisy.

Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete for long periods of time.

Operators must wear protective clothing overalls, safety shoes, respirators, protective masks, and goggles on assignments.

They are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in work areas.

They are exposed to fumes from acid, solvents, other industrial type of chemicals, and explosives. They are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fire.

There is a chance for injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea.

There is a slight danger of contact dermatitis involved with handling used protective and safety equipment.

The worker is occasionally required to wear respiratory protective equipment and TAP clothing. Major Duties:

  • Conducts ammunition operations and chemical/biological defense duties.
  • Operates equipment to include hand tools, power presses, and other devices used for specific applications.
  • Completes assignments in connection with the production, rebuilding or demilitarization of chemical munitions.
  • Applies detailed instructions that concern alterations of temperature settings, mixing of detergents and other cleaning agents in proper proportions.
  • Assists with sorting the different metals for salvage.
  • Clean and removes rust, paint, grease, dirt, corrosion, etc., from casings, projectiles, threads or other parts by using solvents.
  • Receives on-the-job training in the operation of production line machines and equipment.
  • Follows oral and written instructions concerning work assignments.
  • Examines protective masks for defects to segregate according to condition.
  • Uses scales to weigh explosives and other materials to be mixed with explosives.
  • Performs cleaning and sanitizing operations of protective masks and components.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations.
