Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team in installing, maintaining, and repairing air conditioning, ventilation, and related industrial systems at a military base in Kansas.

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in Fort Riley, Kansas.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Maintenance Mechanic Leader ~ without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform common duties which include determining the proper material, equipment or part that are required for repairs or maintenance.

I can interpret guides such as blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals to perform maintenance or repairs.

I am able to perform repairs or maintenance on industrial equipment and troubleshoot to diagnose malfunctions.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating Physical Effort : Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up 50 pounds.

Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach.

Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods.

Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas.

Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids.

Subject to possible burns from refrigerants.

Works near moving parts of equipment and machinery, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and toxic fumes, which could cause cuts, burns, and respirator ailments.

May be subject to sudden and frequent temperature changes. May be required to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, ear protection and hard hats. Major Duties:

  • Perform the full range of work involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of air conditioning, ventilation and related systems and equipment.
  • Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available on site.
  • Check ongoing and finished work of employees, ensuring compliance with procedures, methods and deadlines.
  • Assist in refrigerant, record keeping and inventory management.
  • Relay instructions and directives received from supervisor to other workers.
