This job involves helping to organize and classify positions within the U.S.

Customs and Border Protection's human resources team, such as researching job details, analyzing facts for classifications, and communicating with managers and staff.

Full Job Description

Organizational Location: These four (4) positions are with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.

Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management, Talent Management Directorate, CBP Hiring Center, Classification Branch, located in Bloomington, MN.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Conducting research from various sources to compile and consolidate information.

Gathering and analyzing basic facts for classification actions. Communicating factual and procedural information clearly to customers.

Education Substitution GS-7: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level.

This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education.

If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required.

It is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA 3.0 or higher of a possible 4.0, excluding pass/fail credits.

Pass/fail credits cannot be more than 10% of total credits), or (3) honor society membership. Review Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) to see if you qualify under this provision.

Combining Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages.

Interpreting and applying position classification standards to positions to determine the correct pay category, occupational series, title, and grade level.

Preparing evaluation reports and discussing findings with management and employees.

Education Substitution GS-9: A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, a J.D. or an LL.B.

This position provides classification services for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The role of this position is to provide advice, consultation, and guidance on position classification, position management, and organizational design for CBP.

The primary mission of the Classification Team is to provide superior advice and guidance to customers in the areas of position classification, organization, and position management services.

This position starts at a salary of $55,012.00 (GS-7, Step 1) to $87,482.00 (GS-9, Step 10) with promotion potential to $ (126,859GS-12 Step 10).

In this position, typical duties include: Classifying position descriptions using Office of Personnel Management (OPM) classification standards by making determinations on the proper pay plan, title, series and grade level for General Schedule (GS) positions ranging from grades 1 through 15, along with Federal Wage System positions.

Assisting with interpreting classification issuances, directives, regulations, laws and procedures. Learning how to prepare evaluations reports of findings.

Assisting in developing auxiliary determinations that rarely would result in controversy to classified positions which include applying the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); determining Financial Disclosure filing requirements, determining position sensitivity regarding the level of background investigation or security clearance; Bargaining Unit Status (BUS) determinations; and Drug Testing requirements.
