The primary purpose of this position is to administer all stages of separation policy, procedure and implementation to the Air Reserve Component (ARC) in accordance with applicable law.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, 0203 Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of, and skill in applying, military laws, HR rules, procedures, policies and operations concerning military assignment requirements sufficient to make initial and final determination on reserve member's eligibility for assignments.
Provides authoritative guidance on behalf of AFRC and USAF/RE to assigned AFRC organizations, commanders, and unit members in a range of occupations, which are predominately professional and administrative in nature, regarding assignment actions; review records and documents to develop facts and issues; research and provide explanations regarding rules, procedures and requirements to ARC employees; outline options for the case and recommend appropriate action; and answer questions and prepare reports pertaining to the case.
OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed one year of graduate level education in a field directly related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Comprehensive knowledge of, and the ability to apply an extensive array of HR laws, rules, policies, procedures, objectives, and peculiarities relating to separation eligibility processes for Reserve and Guard members and to advise lower grade personnel or lower echelons, or to resolve unprecedented or unusual situations/issues and interpret and adapt various guidelines to unique cases.
2. Ability to gather, analyze and summarize complex data, and develop and present findings. 3.
Knowledge of human resource information and pay systems and various software programs to create, modify/edit various forms, letters and other personnel documents using a personal computer. 4.
Skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 5.
Knowledge and experience in a specialized background in order to interpret and apply precedents, and resolve complex procedural and substantive problems in concluding transactions and making key decisions.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

Major Duties:
Reviews, analyzes and evaluates any aspect of separation cases to ascertain the proper law, rule or regulation applicable and required course(s) of action based on nature of the case.
Provides advisory, technical assistance, procedural guidance, and recommendations regarding separation applications and inquiries.
Applies in-depth knowledge and understanding to use, manipulate, and apply various functions of the Military Personnel Data System (MilPDS) in order to input transactions and analyze output products used to control, assess, evaluate, track, approve/disapprove, and communicate transaction status information as relates to all separation Provides authoritative, procedureal guidance to MPS' regarding the Air National Guard (ANG) separations.
