Job Description

Summary

This entry-level job supports military personnel by handling routine customer service tasks, such as processing ID card applications, counseling service members and their families on benefits, and maintaining records.

It involves clerical work like data entry and answering inquiries in a fast-paced Air Force environment at McGuire AFB.

The primary purpose of this position is to The primary purpose of this position is: To accomplish routine tasks associated with the Customer Service Program and to perform a wide variety of both procedural and substantive clerical work supporting military personnel programs,operations, or functions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Positions, Human Resources Assistance, Series 0203.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of military personnel policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and precedents relating to maintenance of records, casualty assistance, and entitlements: Knowledge of the format, content, and uses of the military personnel record: Knowledge of the organization and its functions and career enhancement programs to answer inquiries of a general nature or to refer them to the responsible staff member: Knowledge of coding for the automated personnel system to enter data and to correct errors in personnel actions and periodic reports: Knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and terminology commonly used in office settings to prepare material correctly.

OR EDUCATION: Four years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

NOTE: You must submit copies of transcripts KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of military personnel regulations and procedures relating to Customer Service Programs.

Knowledge of military organizational structure, protocol, and similar matters. Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures.

Knowledge of the military personnel automated system and office automation hardware, software, and peripherals. A qualified typist is not required.

Knowledge of the format, content, and uses of the military personnel record and the procedures and requirements regarding its maintenance Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and maintain effective work relationship PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Major Duties:

Serves as recognized source of information on ID card applications.

Counsel's active duty, reservists, retirees and their dependents on eligibility requirements, individual options and processing procedures.

Updates inquiries and processes actions through Personnel Data Systems.

Reviews products to identify and correct mismatched data in system and to ensure projections and confirmations have consummated and required actions have been taken.

Performs other action pertaining to Customer Service Programs to include SGLI/FSGLI updates, personnel in-processing, citizenship updates, and joint spouse updates, among other programs.

Performs clerical support to ensure efficient office operations. Receives and answers routine telephone inquiries or refers to appropriate staff. Receives and refers visitors.

Uses a variety of office automation hardware, software, and peripherals in the performance of military personnel functions and performs other clerical support work.
