Join the State of Utah's Department of Human Resource Management as an experienced HR Benefit Specialist on our Total Rewards team. In this role, you will assist in administering the comprehensive statewide benefit package, including retirement, healthcare and other employees benefits.
The ideal candidate has proven benefit experience, exceptional analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a myriad of stakeholders.
Success in this position requires working independently, exercising sound judgment, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to skillfully resolve complex benefit issues while safeguarding the interests of the State of Utah and its employees.
This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office (2 days a week required in office) and remote work days.
The office is located at the Taylorsville State Office Building, 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, Utah.
Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
Preference may be given to current Division of Human Resource Management employees.

As per DHRM rule (R477-4(5)(1), if you are a current DHRM HR Generalist, the Human Resource Specialist position would be a lateral transfer.
Provide strategic and operational decision-making support to the Total Rewards team, while specializing in comprehensive benefits such as retirement and healthcare.
Serves as a subject matter expert for HR colleagues, offering guidance on benefits and the rules, practices, and procedures associated with them.
Compliance & Research
Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Research market trends and emerging benefit offerings; analyze potential impacts and present findings.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Collect, analyze, and interpret benefits-related data.
Prepare reports and present findings to various audiences, including senior leaders.
Design and facilitate training, presentations, and instructional resources as a representative for the statewide benefit package.
Coordinate day-to-day benefit related activities and processes with third-party administrators and other partners.
Ensure workflows, objectives and deadlines are met.
May lead projects, committees, work groups and monitor their progress.
Review work for efficiency, quality, and compliance, and recommend improvements.
Proven experience working with employee benefits such as retirement, medical, dental, life insurance, annual and sick leave is required.
A basic understanding of benefit regulations such as the ACA and HIPPA is required.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
Experience leading projects or process-improvement initiatives.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage sensitive, complex issues with discretion and independent judgment.

Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
