Full Job Description

The Department of Corrections Human Resource (HR) Office Region 1 at State Correctional Institution (SCI) Mercer is seeking to fill a permanent Human Resource Assistant 2 position. This role performs human resource work at the Regional HR Office for the Department of Corrections Human Resource Office. The incumbent will work independently to support timekeeping responsibilities for SCI Mercer. Requirements

As a Human Resource Assistant 2, you will perform human resource (HR) work to support pay and time transactions, institutional time keeping, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other HR duties.

Your work is aligned and located within the State Correctional Institute (SCI) Mercer but may support SCI Cambridge Springs and SCI Albion as needed. Some responsibilities in this role include:

  • Entering walk time and overtime into SAP as well as other data
  • Tracking and entering Temporary Working Out of Class
  • Auditing and resolving special pay actions for staff that may not have received appropriate increments or longevity steps
  • Initiating special pay PARS related to union settlements or disciplinary actions
  • Assisting employees with employee benefits, FMLA, and the State Employee Assistance Program as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (Telework) part-time up to 2 days per week after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mercer. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Human Resource Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of clerical or other comparable experience and one year of beginning level paraprofessional human resource or equal opportunity work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
