This job involves leading a horticulture and grounds maintenance program at a correctional facility, where you'll supervise inmates in tasks like planting, gardening, and equipment upkeep while ensuring a secure work environment.
It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in landscaping or plant care who is comfortable working in a structured setting and can handle training on safety and supervision.
The role also includes setting up a greenhouse and obtaining a pesticide license to manage chemical inventories effectively.
Perform duties relating to the function of horticulture/grounds maintenance activities working with Inmates to support a horticulture/grounds maintenance program and other horticulture special projects as assigned.
Provide supervision and instruction to inmate participants/assigned staff for the care of the complex grounds concerning landscape installation, maintenance, vegetable gardening and seasonal color.
Maintain equipment.
Responsible for inventory of chemicals, accountable for tools/equipment.
Responsible for the security of the work area.
Establish and maintain a greenhouse.
Assist with special event support.
Must obtain SC applicator's pesticide license within first year of employment.
A high school diploma and custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
