Full Job Description
Performs skilled manual labor and operates equipment such as excavator, backhoe, dozer, front end loader, lowboy truck tractor, and motor grader in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the State Highway system. Operates equipment such as tandem dump trucks with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations. Operates equipment such as pile driver, skid steer, and large rollers (> 4 tons) in conjunction with highway and bridge construction/repair operations. Uses small tools and power tools involved in bridge construction and repair including, but not limited to, demolition, building formwork, steel beam repair, concrete spall repair, timber/steel pile repair, painting, sand blasting, and pressure washing. Signals crane operator while performing various bridge construction/repair activities such as removing old bridge components, pile driving, and setting bridge decks. Responsible for safely rigging lifted materials and bridge components. Coordinates placement of traffic control devices for work zones according to SCOOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations. Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
