This job involves operating heavy machinery like backhoes and loaders to maintain and repair road shoulders, along with manual labor and directing traffic in work zones for safety.
Workers also help with emergency responses during bad weather, storms, or snow, which may require long shifts.
It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in construction or maintenance who doesn't mind physical work outdoors and can handle unpredictable hours.
Serves as heavy equipment operator on the Shoulder Crew and operates backhoes, lowboy truck tractors, motor graders, and front end loaders to perform maintenance on roadways.
Performs manual labor in maintenance and repair of shoulders.
Perform traffic controls operations for work zones, to include flagging traffic for the safety of the crew and the public, during various phases of roadway maintenance.
Assists in on call operations for after-hours emergencies, and Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan.
Assists with inclement weather operations, may include operation of equipment (medium and heavy) and being available for extended working hours and/or 12-hour shifts.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
