Requirements

This role advances PennDOT by supporting the planning and management of a highway design squad within the Plans Unit.

The position involves overseeing the functional activities of Project Supervisors, Civil Engineers, Draftsman Designers, and other temporary staff, including the approval of leave, time, and expenses, as well as conducting Employee Performance Evaluations.

You will be tasked with developing comprehensive design packages for one or more complex or moderately complex in-house projects, maintaining project data in ECMS, and coordinating design efforts while fostering effective relationships with various Department Units, outside agencies, and public officials to adhere to the established letting schedule.Additionally, the role includes obtaining necessary approvals and clearances, monitoring project costs throughout all phases, and preparing reports to adjust project funding as needed.

The individual will also guide subordinates in creating design packages for less complex projects, conduct preliminary and final plan reviews to ensure compliance with design criteria, and represent the Plans Engineer at public meetings and other relevant functions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Highway Designer (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of professional experience in highway design work including six months of CADD operation; and an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position requires possession of a an active drivers license.
