Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting optometry services in a military clinic by preparing for patient visits, conducting basic vision screenings, operating equipment, and handling administrative tasks like ordering eyewear and maintaining records.

It also includes assisting optometrists, cleaning to prevent infections, and training new staff.

About the Position: This position is located at 633RD MDG JBLE Langley, DIR OF MEDICINE FLIGHT AND MISSLE MEDICINE OPTOMETRY This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes operating optometry equipment, screening optometry patients, and conducting various vision tests, such as color and depth perception.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/levelposition in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Reviews clinic appointment schedules 24-72 hours in advance to identify patient needs.
  • Receives each patient and initiates examination data recording in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Orders authorized military prescription eyewear using the DoD Spectacle Request Transmission System (SRTS).

  • Ensures exam rooms are opened and closed properly daily, kept in an orderly appearance, and remain fully operational by reporting problems and facilitating work orders.
  • Cleans clinical equipment after each patient and at the end of the day to maintain infection control.
  • Assists medical support assistant in clinical and appointment duties as needed
  • Scribes for optometrist as needed.
  • Directs and trains personnel as needed, including new optometry technicians and military medical personnel rotating through the clinics for deployment ophthalmic readiness and cross training
