Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a clinical psychologist in a military clinic, where you'll assess and treat mental health issues for service members and their families using a team-based approach that considers physical, emotional, and social factors.

You'll provide therapy, run educational classes on common mental health topics, and collaborate with doctors to support patient care.

About the Position: This position falls under the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth at the Tricare Prime Clinic Chesapeake, providing a team-based approach to healthcare to deliver evidence-based biopsychosocial assessment, treatment, prevention and management of mental health problems and bio psychosocially influenced health conditions for Military Health System beneficiaries.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Behavioral Health Consultant): Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.

or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting mental health assessments; providing individual and group treatment; and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

AND Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S.

State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your license with your application package).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Apply biopsychosocial evaluations to propose mental health interventions.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment, including behavioral, cognitive, and motivational approaches.
  • Provide primary care providers and staff regular and concise feedback on the status of referred patients, to include recommendations for team-based care.
  • Implement psychoeducational classes to target high frequency diagnoses found in the primary care clinic.
