Job Description

Summary

This job involves coordinating health care referrals for military clinic patients, including scheduling appointments, handling claims and invoices, and tracking budgets using computer systems.

It supports beneficiaries in getting medical services from civilian providers and helps with appeals if benefits are denied.

About the Position: This position is located at the Army Health Clinic Presidio, Monterey, California. This position has a typing requirement of 40 wpm.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative duties in support of the clinic such as assisting beneficiaries with appointment scheduling, referrals and/or claims; coordinating with providers and staff on patient inquiries and utilizing automated system to prepare correspondence, reports and/or monitor expenditures.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-6).

Major Duties:

  • Receive referrals for all beneficiaries for health care to include civilian provider referrals, civilian diagnostic testing and durable medical equipment to be supplied by civilian resources.
  • Review and verify claims and assist in budget execution.
  • Receive and verify invoices for accuracy, coordinates with requestor to ensure items or services were received as requested.
  • Prepare recurring and special reports detailing fund status and provide input for other budget reports.
  • Maintain automated registers to track expenditures by accounts and individual departments.
  • Assist individuals in obtaining health care benefits and preparing appeals when benefits are denied.
  • Operate word processing equipment using the full variety and complexity of software functions to generate correspondence and reports.
