The selected candidate(s) will be responsible for investigating 3-1-1 service requests in a timely manner and determine if any corrective actions are needed. Develops solutions for areas where corrective actions are required which reduce congestion along the streets. Conducts studies of traffic signal operations and determine when improvements to signal timing, design, or if phasing modifications will improve overall operation and reduce congestion. Implements traffic signal timing as part of the City’s Traffic Signal Performance Improvement Program. Develops designs for traffic signal modifications and new traffic signal installations as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing.ORRequires graduation from an Engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board, and passage of the eight - hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board. ORPossession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications
Knowledge related to the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (Texas MUTCD). Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access and Word. Knowledge of drafting applications including AutoCAD and MicroStation and Traffic Signal Analysis such as Synchro.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
