Job Description
Summary
This job involves supervising and performing maintenance on electrical systems, security equipment, and other infrastructure at a correctional facility, including training inmates and handling emergency repairs.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in electrical and general maintenance who is reliable, able to work in a secure environment, and comfortable with on-call duties.
Key Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five years of professional experience in institutional general maintenance, construction, and repair
- Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams
- Experience with electrical systems, fire alarms, CCTV, electronic security, PA, intercom, and high voltage distribution
- Skills in requisitioning materials, performing installations and repairs, and making emergency fixes
- Ability to supervise and train inmates on the job
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training
Full Job Description
- Supervises and assists in the performance of maintenance and preventative maintenance of electrical fire alarms, CCTV, electronic security, PA, intercom and high voltage distribution systems and equipment.
- Reads blueprints and wiring diagrams and makes material take-offs.
- Requisitions materials and parts needed.
- Ensures completion of installation/repairs.
- Makes emergency repairs to electrical system and equipment.
- Performs on-the-job training of inmates.
- Participates in on-call rotation.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma and trades experience related to the area of employment. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis for basis.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and five (5) years' professional experience in institutional general maintenance construction and repair.
