Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a General Maintenance and Operations Supervisor (Facilities) in the Office of Facilities and Environmental Quality within the Department of Commerce.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C and evaluated under OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

This is demonstrated by providing oversight of subordinate supervisors to ensure the successful execution of responsibilities for supervising trade workers in electrical, plumbing, and utility systems repairs/operations, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, repair, and system upgrades.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work performed through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, and social.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

As a General Maintenance and Operations Supervisor (Facilities), you will perform the following duties: Directly supervises subordinate supervisors assigning work, explaining requirements, and setting deadlines.

Strategic planning, conflict resolution, performance evaluation, and development of team members. Communicates and collaborates across all levels of the organization.

Promotes innovation and continuous improvement by encouraging team input and adapting processes to enhance efficiency.

Engages in and oversees the repair and operation of complex mechanical systems to diagnose and resolve issues.

Ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations, preventive maintenance and safety inspections to minimize risks.

Provides guidance and supervisory authority over major work functions, assisting subordinate supervisors and employees in applying technical specifications.

Identifies and addresses training and development needs to enhance team capabilities, utilizing individual development plans and arranging for necessary training sessions.

Develops, implements, and monitors internal procedures to ensure effective control and direction of work activities. Emphasizes strategic resource allocation to achieve operational goals.

Engages with higher-level management and staff to develop recommendations for operational improvements, including adopting new technologies or methods.
