Full Job Description

Serves as the Controls System Manager at the Glenn Research Center.

Responsibilities include advocacy, planning, designing, and developing controls systems and continuous based monitoring systems used to power and control specialized research and development facilities for the following systems: Institutional Controls, Life Safety Detection Systems, IT Security, Gas Detection Systems, Central Process Control Systems, Energy Management Control System, and aiding in developing agency standards.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work.

The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading engineering activities, including advocating for, planning, designing, and developing control systems to support specialized research and development facilities; Providing technical guidance and engineering support for Construction of Facilities (CoF) projects or processes; Collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders to drive project execution, resolve technical challenges, and implement solutions to achieve project success.

  • Plans, coordinates, and manages all activities associated with the engineering, operations, and maintenance of assigned systems.
  • Works with the Branch Chief in developing long range and short range plans for improvements in engineering, operations and maintenance for assigned systems.
  • Oversees multi-discipline designs for assigned systems, providing feedback and design review at critical milestones, to include constructability and reliability for assigned systems.
  • Conducts conceptual definition studies and analyses and establishes preliminary design requirements and alternatives for assigned systems.
  • Makes recommendations on projects, operations and maintenance, and budgets. Reviews reports and documentation for the Agency, including in the areas of engineering inspections, investigations, and laboratory analyses to evaluate agency impacts.
  • Prepares and presents reports, incident documentation, presentations and advocacies for assigned systems.
