The Selective Placement Factor is: You must currently be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).

Your license must be held in any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

NOTE: You must submit a copy of your current license with your application package. A copy of a wall certificate that does not have an expiration date will not serve to verify this requirement.

In addition to the SPF and Basic Requirements, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying structural engineering expertise to designs for major projects for customers; 2) Providing technical advice and guidance to client staff engineers on design support of architectural and engineering contracts; 3) Performing field investigations to verify and document existing structural conditions as a basis for the design of facility projects; 4) Managing structural engineering facilities projects with adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards; 5) Providing structural engineering support to active construction projects.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will perform design analyses and calculations for specialized civil/structural projects.
  • You will prepare final detailed working drawings, comparative cost analysis, Request for Proposals, and project specifications for a wide variety of facility types.
  • You will analyze and design extensive structural alterations and modifications to existing facilities to meet the ever-changing demands placed upon the shore establishment of Navy and Marine Corps.
  • You will apply new developments or experimental theories to problems not readily treatable by conventional methods.
  • You will make site investigation field trips to project sites, as required, to collect all pertinent data and refine/develop project scope by inspection of existing conditions.
  • You will review and check projects prepared by in-house engineers and architects.
  • You will provide independent, timely and professional specialized structural engineering products, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands.
  • You will provide structural engineering support to active construction projects including the following activities; submittal review, respond to RFI’s, quality assurance site visits and inspections, and project closeout.
  • You will ensure that the structural aspects of projects are constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications.
