This job involves leading a small team to monitor and count adult salmon at a fish weir in Chilkoot Lake, including setting up and maintaining the site, handling fish, and collecting data to help manage local fisheries.
It's a seasonal role in a remote outdoor setting near Haines, Alaska, where you'll work closely with nature and wildlife.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in field biology or fisheries who enjoys physical outdoor work and team leadership in challenging environments.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting
for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 located in Haines, Alaska!
What you will be doing:
This permanent seasonal Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 position serves as the crew leader of a 3-member crew on the Chilkoot Lake weir adult salmon stock assessment project.
Primary duties include performing project and camp installation, maintenance, and removal, and identifying, handling, sampling, and enumerating adult salmon passing through the fish weir.

The working conditions you can expect:
The Chilkoot weir is within the Chilkoot State Park accessed on the road system approximately 10 miles northeast of town in the center of a one-mile stretch of river between Lutak Inlet and Chilkoot Lake.
The daily work environment is dynamic with the majority of time spent outside on the salmon weir and nights spent on site in the dry cabin overlooking the river.
This position provides support for bear monitoring and collaborates with State Park rangers to keep bears, and crew safe.
